The American Optometric Association (AOA) offers membership options for doctors of optometry, optometric staff, students and others within the profession.

Doctors of Optometry

To learn about AOA membership categories, eligibility requirements and how to join, visit the AOA Membership Categories page and select the category that best describes you.

Once you are ready to join, click the BECOME A MEMBER OF THE AOA button, or you can click the "Join" link on AOA.org.

Doctors of optometry can also join by contacting their affiliate association.

Find your AOA affiliate and contact information

1. Once you click BECOME A MEMBER OF THE AOA, you will then proceed as follows:

2. At the bottom of the page select the affiliate you wish to join with the AOA and click continue:

3. This will take you to the log-in page:

4. Fill up all the Mandatory Details like Name, Email, Address and Signature and continue:

Please enter the below prompt details and than click Continue.

6. Select the society (if page is required for selected affiliate) from the drop-down menu and continue. In some states, additional rules apply. These rules may require participation in specific organizations, allow payment of only one month at a time, and give new members the right to request a payment schedule.

7. This will lead to the Payment Page, fill up the payment information and click on make me a member:

8. Once the Payment is completed it will lead to the Thank you page and your submission is complete!

Associate/Paraoptometric Members

Do you work alongside an AOA member doctor of optometry?

Eligible paraoptometric and support staff can become AOA associate members at no additional cost. The sponsoring AOA member doctor manages staff membership through MyAOA.

Optometry Students

Students enrolled in an ACOE-accredited or pre-accredited school or college of optometry may join the AOA through student membership.

AOA student membership is connected with the American Optometric Student Association (AOSA). AOSA members are also members of the AOA, providing students with access to resources, professional development opportunities and connections to the optometric profession.

Please note: AOA student membership is intended for students currently enrolled in an eligible school or college of optometry. Undergraduate and pre-optometry students do not qualify for this membership category.
